Saving for a Canon EOS 50D

By Stuart

Savings MetreAs I will (sadly) be having to give my Canon EOS 1000D back next month, I am now on a mad savings venture to save up for a Canon EOS 50D. I have found my passion for photography and want to go into it head first and see where I end up.

So I have decided that it would be appropriate to have this savings goal metre on the site to show just how close i am to getting my goal.

Granted at the moment I am only at 4.75% of the total cost but after a couple more paychecks I hope to raise that bar up a lot. I will update this as often as I can when I throw some more savings in (it is *unfortunately* not that easy as I have to re-create the image each time). ;)

So now marks the beginning, it is one month exactly today that I hope to order my camera… can I save the money in time? We will see.

In the mean time however, tell me… What was the last big purchase you saved up for and how did it feel when you finally got your hands on it?

Stuart ;)

I had originally wanted a 50D and changed my mind to start saving for a 40D. To my dismay, the price of Canon DSLRs have not really come down like other goodies this holiday season. I’m also saving for a long lens like the Sigma 120-400mm.

I can’t remember my last big purchase since it was so long ago. It would either be my Canon 20D or Dell laptop. I love both and can’t live without either.

Hello AVCr8teur,
Long time no see. Unfortunately recently in Australia (and I think that this is mainly due to the current economic crisis) the prices have actually risen rather than fallen.

Ohh and I had a look at the Sigma lens and it did look pretty swish. I thought I would go with a cheaper lens and also get a macro lens for my first round and then I can save up for a better telephoto lens later.

I have to say I cant live without my laptop either (Dell also) it has completely replaced a desktop in my life… I just prefer the portability.

Just before my last major equipment purchase, I found myself impatient. I ended up eating rice and beans 2-3 times per day to accelerate the process. (It’s amazing how much we spend on food.)

I ended up with my new camera and quite a bit healthier for the experience. :)

I wish you an expedient process.

Hi Erik,
Yowsers you must have been eager to get your last big purchase hehe. Good to hear that it had some added health benefits.

I have to do some more budgeting this weekend but I think I will be able to safely say that I am about 40% of the way there next Monday, though I will have to see how I go.

And thank you for your well wishes… I cant wait for my shiny new camera and lenses /dances around.

I am curious about the camera canon lent you – what are they going to do with it now that its 2nd hand – cant you get it for a good price ?

Hi Lis,
The camera that Canon lent me will be passed on to another blogger. Basically they are doing it on a three month rotation so that they can give a lot of bloggers the same opportunity.

So after I give it back to them they will send it out to the bloggers who are next on the list for them to put it through their paces.

And this list is where? :)

I’d love to be on a test list.

Erik you can put a comment on this post http://community.canon.com.au/blogs/eos/archive/2008/09/02/about-canon-s-blogger-product-review-program.aspx to register your interest. Currently it is only open to Australian bloggers so if you fit the bill by all means let them know there.

Hi Stuart,
I knew about you and your blog from the APF. Nice work mate.
I have the Canon 50D, upgraded from the 400D and it’s an awesome camera, I’m absolutely loving it. I’m sure you’ll love it too. Glad to see you’re now half way to your goal.

Good luck mate!

Hi Jackie,
Thanks so much for the visit, I am really looking forward to getting into APF (for those who don’t know, the Australian Photography Forum which you can see here –> http://www.photoforum.com.au/) now that it is the new year.

I had no-idea that someone would find me so quickly from there *hehe*.

Good to hear some more good reviews for the EOS 50D too, I think it is a really good choice to go with, so far I have only heard good things about it. I am going to be ordering mine in just over a week too (but it will take up to four weeks to get here :( )

By the way – apologies that it took me so long to respond, I have been unwell and had a death in the family, so have been unable to give my blogs the attention they deserve.

Stuart ;)

I don’t agree with this particular article. Nonetheless, I did searched with Bing and I’ve found out that you are right and I seemed to be thinking in the improper way. Keep on writing good quality content like this.
