An itch I have had for years…

By Stuart

As you may already know, I have spent a lot of time in the last month or so, going over all of the photos that I have taken since about the beginning of 2003. I needed to get through them all and finally get rid of the bad ones and organise the remaining photos so that I could actually find them when I needed.

Anyhoo, I came across these two photos in my adventures taken in 2003. I think they would be the first real evidence of the itch that I had for wanting to explore photography.

Flower 1

Flower 2

These were both taken with my first digital camera, a Kodak LS753 if I remember correctly. And they were just taken while I was out and about (I used to carry the camera with me quite a fair bit).

Anyhoo, I guess I just wanted to share this interesting discovery from my past that I guess defines me a little bit more. What would be the first photo you took that got you thinking that photography could be good fun for you?

Stuart ;)

i need to do what you just did a month or so, organized my photos and delete those which are bad, my computer complained today it is full, so i had to transfer asap the picture files to external hard drive without sorting yet, but don’t want to fill up my external hard drive with junk so i know i should be doing the organizing too. oh, i love that rose picture, the folding of the petal at the center is lovely.

This image is sooo beautiful. Floral shots are difficult to take and you did the images well

Top photo is the best – I’d like to have seen you come a little closer on the bottle brush.. still good though.

I first started taking photos of friends (mixed with some floral stuff also – easy subject matter to explore the craft – flowers do not complain about having their image taken, and will poss for you all day). Portrait stuff was always a favorite of mine though.

@Betchai – It does take a while, I mean I have at least culled out all the junk now but I still have to finish categorising everything. LOL But I will get there. And thank you, it was just an impromptu shot when I was on the way home one day.

@Roentarre – Thank so much, I have to say I impressed even myself considering it was a point and shoot camera (and also the fact that the LS752 was not really a good camera at all LOL).

@Manz – I have to agree with you, the top one is my favourite of the two as well. Wish I could see the flowers again and take them with the SLR and a macro lens that would be STUNNING! Interesting point too, flowers do just stay as you want them for long periods of time. And people do complain so often when I try to capture their soul.. erm I mean photo with my camera!

I commend you for organizing your photos. It’s quite a lot of work if you have taken thousands of photos in the past 5 years. I had several point & shoot film cameras from my past, but I didn’t really get into photography until the digital camera became affordable in 2001. It started on a vacation trip to Alaska. What’s funny was it was my first trip with a digital camera and I didn’t totally trust the technology so I wanted to bring my film camera along too. Haha!

Thanks for your comment about Laughlin & the Colorado River. :)

Hi AVCr8teur,
Thanks it is still a big job (I have just been doing more today). After culling out all the junk I am down to just over 9200 photos. Now I am just going through, categorising and labeling them which is taking even more time HAHA.

And I remember having the same thoughts, for quite a while I wanted to have a backup film copy of all my photos. LOL oooh those were the days (I feel so old).

Also you are most welcome for the comment.
Cheers
Stuart
